Microsoft's beleaguered web browser gets its fair share of critique from frustrated users, but it seems just as many Windows users love the browser, including actress Zooey Deschanel.

Upon hearing news that the browser may be shelved in favor of the as yet unnamed Windows 10 browser, currently codenamed Project Spartan, Deschanel took to Facebook with an emoji mourning IE's apparent end. The story Deschanel referenced, however, talks about the rise of Microsoft's new browser — at the time the company had not confirmed IE's end.

The confusion began when Microsoft's Chris Capossela made comments at the Microsoft Convergence event on Monday reportedly indicating that Internet Explorer was effectively dead.

However, when contacted by Mashable, Microsoft confirmed that Internet Explorer is, in fact very much alive.

“Project Spartan is Microsoft’s next generation browser, built just for Windows 10," a spokesperson told Mashable. "

We will continue to make Internet Explorer available with Windows 10 for enterprises and other customers who require legacy browser support

We will continue to make Internet Explorer available with Windows 10 for enterprises and other customers who require legacy browser support.”

So although Windows 10 will feature the company's shiny, new browser, IE will live on for many users. At least for now.

Deschanel, who, interestingly, once appeared in an Apple commercial, is not alone in her feelings about the old-school browser. Amid the majority of Windows users expressing glee at the thought of IE's death, some others on social media were, apparently, not looking forward to losing the ancient browser.

Internet Explorer is being shut down and I am gravely affected by this.

Nevertheless, the vast majority of comments, even ones friendly toward Microsoft, are celebrating, albeit prematurely, the browser's demise.

Bye bye Internet Explorer. You will be missed. *Sigh* need to find something new to make jokes and memes about. #InternetExplorer #RIP

Windows are finally leaving behind Internet Explorer. A victory for humanity.

Microsoft is discontinuing Internet Explorer, because its become the Peyton Manning of browsers. Great at first, crashes when you need it.
